We're moving...
In the new year mhop will be moving offices
We've had enough of the city and we're moving back to the countryside! (... rural Renfrewshire to be precise.)
In the new year mhop creative will be moving offices. We're taking necessary steps to manage a seemless transition in our operations. We're excited about this new venture and look forward to "creating results" with our clients through 2009 and beyond.
Announcing ontologize
Commercial development starts on mhop's online research tool
ontology
noun
1. (computer science) a rigorous and exhaustive organization of some knowledge domain that is usually hierarchical and contains all the relevant entities and their relations
2. the metaphysical study of the nature of being and existence
ontologized is an online research tool created by the UK web development business, mhop creative. It was first conceived by mhop creative in February 2008, during the development of their local history project Craigends of the 20th Century. Recognising the universal properties of their work, the decision was made to expand the project in to a framework for public use.
ontologized helps users bring together disparate pieces of information. Creates semantic web application that people can use. Influenced by principles of open data, copyleft, etc.
As ontologized is based on universal principles of information science, it is applicable to any field of study. However, the focus of our developers has remained on the local and family history arena, where we see a number of particular benefits:
- Local history tends to get lost because books on it won't sell as much - it's been overlooked.
- And there is a lot of knowledge spread around in a community that would be useful to put together. - It's like putting a shattered glass back together.
- 19th century books becoming available, copyright free.
For more information please visit ontologize.org.

Introducing Craigends of the 20th Century
mhop's "labour of love" has now gone live
Craigends of the 20th Century (C20C) brings the history of Craigends (Renfrewshire, Scotland) back to life. The online portal for a community run oral history project, C20C combines a number of interactive features including: galleries, forums, games and much more. C20C also introduces an ontological encyclopedia which incorporates features of the semantic web. The visual design of C20C was kept minimal: "the content does the talking".
